The priority during the Czech Republic and Sweden's EU presidencies will be the Western Balkans and progress for those countries in the region whose reforms are directed towards the honoring of European values, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde and Czech Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek stated in Prague on Sept. 9.
The Czech Republic will hold the EU presidency from July 2022, and Sweden will take over on January 2023. "I wish we will be able to hear at the EU-Western Balkans summit during the Czech presidency, a promise for the concrete date for the admission of, for example, Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia into the EU," Kulhanek said during the joint news conference.
The Swedish foreign minister said that everything depended on the advancing of reforms in those countries, which have to be directed towards the honoring of European values. "The Balkans is crucial. Albania and North Macedonia have fulfilled the conditions for starting the negotiations, and they should start immediately," Ann Linde stated.
