Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sept. 15 that the Army of Serbia relied on an "incomparably" larger collection of modern weapons than a few years ago.
Touring an exhibition of arms and military equipment at Belgrade's Usce on the Serbian Unity Day, President Vucic said Russia's Pantsir missile system and Konkurs anti-tank guided missiles would be added to the Serbian weapons systems.
"We couldn't dream about these a few years ago. Angela Merkel was greeted by six MiG-29 jets when she visited Serbia on Sept. 13, and Serbia owns 14 of those in total. Today we have at least 25 helicopters more than a couple of years ago, bombers and fighters aside. It can't be compared to what we were," Vucic said.
Vucic also said that previous governments destroyed systems like Strela surface-to-air missile systems, as opposed to the current authorities, "taking good care of the Army of Serbia's weapons and equipment." As he put it, "Serbia is a free, independent state, maintaining a position of military neutrality, which knows how to protect itself without threatening anyone else."
