Members of the Army of Serbia and of the U.S. Armed Forces practiced an airborne landing and free-jump on Sept. 16, at the Medja exercise grounds near Doljevac, within the bilateral tactical exercise Skybridge 21.
Serbian Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic stated during the visit to the military airfield in Nis that the exercise was an opportunity for members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade to see "how the U.S. professionals do it," as well as to demonstrate their skills.
"Our goal is for our military to be the most powerful in the region, not to jeopardize anyone, not to threaten anyone, but to serve as protection for the country and a deterrent factor for anyone who might threaten us," Stefanovic stated.
The U.S. ambassador to Serbia, Anthony Godfrey, stated that he U.S. army and air force were proud to be able to support this multinational training "in true trans-Atlantic form", adding that experience from the exercise was very necessary in today's world.
"Humanitarian operations are never easy. By nature of things they are always critical situations. In order to make sure that all out allied and partner militaries have the necessary skills to provide support, we must practice," Godfrey stated.
