A EU-Western Balkans Summit which will take place in Slovenia, on Oct. 6, "Will recall the strategic importance of the region to the European Union (EU)," while financial institutions will seize the opportunity to explain how to support the recovery of the region, and the leaders of the EU and Western Balkans will offer their views on how to expand political dialogue, security and regional cooperation, as well as how to resolve disputes.
This was European Council President Charles Michel's Oct. 1 message to the participants of the summit. He also underlined that the Union's involvement in the Western Balkans would be another important topic.
Michel said that at a separate session the Regional Cooperation Council, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank "will offer their views, and the focus will be on intensifying our engagement to foster the region's socioeconomic recovery and sustainable development."
The second session will be reserved for EU and Western Balkans leaders to "address how to further deepen political dialogue, security cooperation and strategic engagement, while reaffirming our shared commitment to working toward a strong, stable and united Europe."
