If rallied around a joint non-party candidate for Belgrade mayor, the opposition stands a good chance of defeating the city authorities, a member of the Parliament of a Free Serbia, Srdjan Skoro, said on Oct. 27.

The journalist said to BETA that the opposition should include as many non-party people as possible in the lists of candidates, in order to reduce to a minimum the number of Belgraders abstaining from voting.

"At this point it doesn't matter very much in how many 'lines' opposition candidates will be running for city government offices. What does, however, is that the opposition should reach a non-aggression agreement, control the election process together and nominate a joint candidate for Belgrade mayorship," Skoro underlined.

According to the journalist, the opposition should allow the non-party candidate for Belgrade mayor to set up a list of candidates that would inlcude non-party figures, whose authority and expertise could attract the confidence of a large number of abstainees, convincing them to vote for change of government in the next election.
