Sanda Raskovic Ivic, the vice president of the People’s Party, has said that oppositional voters want the upcoming elections to provide a referendum-like atmosphere against the ruling party, and that they fundamentally view the opposition as a unified whole. Consequently, her party is categorically against the opposition entering the elections with multiple tickets.
“We shouldn’t wade into ideological differences. Neither are we at the People’s Party such nationalists nor are those from the Freedom and Justice Party such leftists that we could not stand together,” Raskovic Ivic told the Nov. 8 edition of the Danas daily.
According to her, anyone insisting on ideological divergence – whether doing so consciously, out of political ineptitude, or out of conceit – is in effect setting the stage for the incumbent Progressive party to win the vote.
Commenting on the attacks the authorities have levied against Zdravko Ponos following media reports that he would likely be the opposition’s presidential candidate, Raskovic Ivic said such behavior was “scandalous” and “more than terrible.”
“What we have seen is very reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s – it is pure fascism. I find it difficult to say this, but I have to call things by their rightful name. The smear campaign truly reminds of what Hitler’s regime used to do,” Raskovic Ivic concluded.
