Embassy: Sir Stuart Peach Appointed British Envoy for Western Balkans

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Sir Stuart Peach as an envoy for the Western Balkans saying that the region was facing the biggest threat to its stability and security in the past two decades and that returning to the violence and divisions of the past must not be allowed.

"The Western Balkans are facing the biggest threat to their stability and security in the past two decades. We have a duty to do everything that we can to preserve the progress achieved in peace and through dialog - we must not allow any kind of return to the violence and divisions of the past. The immense experience and expertise of Sir Stuart will strengthen international efforts to protect peace and promote Euroatlantic integrations in this key region," Johnson has said.

A statement from the British Embassy in Belgrade has said that Sir Stuart Peach has been named envoy as part of Britain's constant devotion to the region's stability and prosperity, and that, as special envoy, he will cooperate with the Western Balkans' leaders and others around the region, as well as British allies in the U.S. and Europe in supporting and strengthening regional stability.

As for Serbia and Kosovo, he will work alongside British partners to support Serbia's and Kosovo's dialog under the auspices of the EU.
