A deputy director of the Clinical Center “Nis”, Radmilo Jankovic, said on Jan. 5 that the number of new omicron cases would grow dramatically, creating serious pressure on Covid infirmaries.
Jankovic said in an interview with the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation that “predictions have come true,” warning that “a complicated time” was in store for Serbia over the next two weeks.
“The people in Serbia should be prepared for the numbers that might seem terrifying in the coming days. Serbia has returned to five-figure numbers and the trend will continue, as it does across Europe,” Jankovic said.
The doctor explained that Serbia’s neighbor, Montenegro, had reported 2,600 new infections, and Greece even 50,000, saying that the Serbian spike couldn’t be avoided.
