The judicial reforms citizens will vote on in a referendum on amendments to the Serbian Constitution are an important step in strengthening the independence of the judiciary and in improving the rule of law in the country, representatives of the Quint countries have said at a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
According to a statement issued by the government late on Jan. 6, at the meeting on the upcoming referendum on constitutional amendments, scheduled for Jan. 16, the Quint representatives stressed the importance of the rule of law and called for further progress in judicial reform.
The proposed judicial reforms are important in the context of Serbia's obligations in the process of EU accession, it was concluded at Brnabic's meeting with the ambassadors of France, Italy, Germany, and the U.S. and charges d'affaires of the Embassy of Great Britain and the EU Delegation to Serbia.
Brnabic said that Serbia had "made great strides" in the field of rule of law and that constitutional amendments were the most important reform in that field.
She also said she was unhappy with the decision of the government in Pristina not to allow the holding of the referendum in Kosovo's territory.
