Despite declaring independence Kosovo is isolated from the EU, does not have a visa-free travel regime with the Union and is under permanent pressure from Serbia so that it has only partly been able to stabilize and appear on the geographic and political map, political analyst Milazim Krasniqi said on Feb. 17

Krasniqi told the Kosovo-online website that the independence of a country on its own did not imply development, freedom, or a better life for its citizens, but only the possibility to achieve this. In that respect, he said, Kosovo has only partly seized these opportunities.

He added that the only problem that remained open and needed to be solved was the status of Serbs according to the Brussels' agreement. For Kosovo to move forward the question of the Community of Serb Municipalities needs to be solved as soon as possible, but, that Kosovo needs to work on attracting foreign investors as well as solving the question of visa liberalization with the EU.

"I hope that this year there will be more progress in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, so that a final and sustainable solution can be found as the current situation is bothering both Serbia and Kosovo, but bothers the Kosovo Serbs who are living in the middle of Belgrade's and Pristina's political calculations, the most, Krasniqi said.
