The Ukrainian ambassador to Serbia, Oleksander Aleksandrovich, said on Feb. 28 that “every occupier in Ukraine can expect a bullet in the head.”

When asked if he felt that Ukraine had been left to its own devices, the ambassador said in an interview with the Prva TV that “the longer Ukraine fights, the stronger the international support is.” The diplomat said that Ukraine had no other choice but to fight, explaining that it couldn’t afford to give up, as it would lead to “a genocide against the Ukrainian people.”

“It is important that we can feel the solidarity of the world,” Ambassador Aleksandrovich said, adding that Ukraine is not a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and
that unfortunately it couldn’t count on military support from the Alliance. He explained that his country wanted to maintain a neutral military status, but that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s policy had shaped Kiev’s aspirations to join the NATO.

The ambassador reiterated that if there hadn’t been for a Russian aggression eight years ago, the country would never have wanted to join the Alliance. He also recalled that Ukraine had denounced the NATO bombing of former Yugoslavia in 1999.
