A journalist and former ambassador, Dragan Bisenic, stated on March 8 that, if Russia took control of Ukraine by military means, the consequence would be a complete break in relations with the West, primarily with Europe, for the next several decades.

In an interview to BETA, Bisenic stated that this would be the biggest change of the course of European history that this generation would face. "If Russia were to fail in what it has started, the consequences will be equally colossal, because it would find itself on the verge of historical insignificance," Bisenic assessed.

To the question about whether Serbia could maintain contacts both with Russia and the West, Bisenic replied that the platform of a "bridge" between Russia and Europe might not be impossible, although it seems unrealistic at this time.

"Maybe there will be no possibility to preserve the full posture of neutrality, but it is certainly possible to maintain some important aspects. We can start with air traffic. Serbia will be the only country through which flights from Europe to Moscow and from Moscow to Europe would be possible. I believe it will be in everyone's interest to preserve that communication route. Other possibilities can be built around this, which Europe and Russia will be equally interested in," Dragan Bisenic concluded.
