Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic assessed on May 18 that Serbia was "in a much tougher position than it seems" and warned that, globally, "perhaps the toughest times since 1944" would ensue as of September.

"The people expect there always to be electricity, gas, heating, but that will be hard to accomplish, perhaps harder than ever. We are preparing to do everything we can," Vucic said at the start of the meeting with Serbian Patriarch Porfirije and bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church who are participating in the Holy Assembly of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Vucic reiterated that Serbia was under "immense pressure" because it is the only country in Europe at this moment that has not imposed sanctions against Russia, and warned that it would be "increasingly difficult to uphold our interests in Kosovo and Metohija."

"Ever since President Vladimir Putin said what the incursion in Ukraine was based upon in the formal and legal sense, all the western powers have been working on solving the Kosovo issue. This is what I am hearing literally everywhere in the western world," stated the Serbian president.
