Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali stated on June 2 that the government's strategic determination was for Serbia to become a full EU member and that he hoped this could take place in a few years.
"Serbia and its Association of Insurers have been the members of the Council of the Green Card Bureau for almost 70 years now, and Serbian drivers have had the same rights and obligations as others in the EU for a full decade," Mali stated at the General Assembly of the Council of the Green Card Bureau, held in Belgrade. He added that, in a way, Serbia's strategic commitment to full EU membership was reflecting on the green card.
The Assembly of the Council of the Green Card Bureau, which was held in Serbia for the first time, was attended by 150 delegates from 47 states. Besides Switzerland and, as of recently, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia is the only country outside of the European economic space that is a member of the Multilateral Agreement, according to which motorists from Serbia have equal rights with motorists from EU countries, and can drive their vehicles in these countries without the green card.
