On June 23, the polling station in Veliki Trnovac, where parliamentary elections were set to be repeated for the fourth time, received a telephone bomb threat.
Despite requests by the principal of the local elementary school – where the polling station was set up – the members of the elections oversight committee refused to vacate the premises.
Even prior to these events the elections had not begun because committee members from the Albanian coalition refused to allow the representatives of Serb parties to handle recording voter turnout in the electoral roll.
“Monitoring the electoral roll and recording voter turnout should be done by one Albanian and one Serb. The Albanians are preventing any Serbs from handling the list. They have taken a seat and are not allowing anyone else [to approach], which is why the elections have not even started,” said Dejan Menkovic, the president of the oversight committee.
The still unfinished elections in Veliki Trnovac have halted the conclusion of the elections process in the entire country, preventing the formation of both Parliament and the new Cabinet.
