In a July 8 evening statement for the RTS public broadcasting service, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that the upcoming early parliamentary and presidential elections will be held separately, with the parliamentary vote likely occurring first.

“They always asked, last time they demanded – and I always take into account the requests of oppositional parties and everyone else – that the elections be separate so that opportunities are increased and the people can decide in different ways,” the president said.

According to him the decision to call the elections will be passed in August or September, so the votes could take place in October or November.

“Most likely first a parliamentary [election], then a presidential [one]. So things are moving along,” Vucic said.
