The Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, stated on Sept. 8 that he expected to secure a stable energy supply for Republika Srpska (RS) at his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"We have problems in Sarajevo regarding the construction of the gas pipeline, but we believe we will solve that issue after the elections. We have confirmation that we will build two gas-powered thermal power plants, which will be a solid guarantee of our energy stability in the future," Dodik told reporters in Banjaluka.
Commenting on his forthcoming meeting with Putin, scheduled for Sept. 20, he said that he held the Russian president "in very high regard," and that Russian partners were acceptable for RS. "Putin is a great global leader, a man capable of and prepared to lead his people and country in a variety of historical moments, in a way that accommodates their interests," Dodik stated.
Dodik will be traveling to Russia only 12 days ahead of the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, scheduled for Oct. 2, at which he is one of the RS presidential contenders.
