A lawyer and human rights activist, Milan Antonijevic, has said he has not yet been offered the post of EU integration minister in a new Serbian cabinet, adding he is ready to give his contribution.
Antonijevic has told Belgrade daily Nova that he would accept new duties regardless of assessments by numerous international organizations that the incumbent Serbian government has been stagnating and even regressing in many domains in relation to the country’s EU integration.
“That is exactly the job of every minister in the future cabinet - to improve the situation within their respective purview,” Antonijevic noted.
Asked about his position on the EU demand to Serbia to align its foreign policy with that of Brussels and impose sanctions against Russia over invasion of Ukraine, Antonijevic said his reply would be affirmative to both - foreign policy alignment and sanctions on Russia.
“My answer is ‘yes’ also to Serbia’s interests. Primarily when we speak about energy stability and other economic interests where sincere support from the EU is expected,” he said. Antonijevic added he believed that “the choice Serbia will make” in regard to sanctions against the (Russian President Vladimir) Putin regime “will be clear.”
