Politicologist Boban Stojanovic stated on Sept. 21 that the announcement of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about the creation of "a large statehood and national movement for the survival and advancement of Serbia," meant the start of the campaign for the 2024 early parliamentary elections.
Vucic has realized, Stojanovic told N1, that a large portion of his voters "do not fancy the Serbian Progressive Party very much." " Vucic has realized that he had to position himself as the key protector of Serb national interests in Kosovo and Metohija, as a statehood party and movement and he as an individual," Stojanovic stated.
He believes Vucic would distance himself from the Progressive Party. "Vucic has already distanced himself from the party in two election cycles, when the party did not run under its own name, but now he heeds a more firm connection with the average voter, who is conservative, nationally oriented and viewing Kosovo as sacred," the politicologist has assessed.
