In a message to Germany’s envoy for the Western Balkans Manuel Sarrazin, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Oct. 1 that “there won’t be an independent Kosovo” the way Berlin planned it.
The German diplomat had said in an earlier comment on the Community of Serb Municipalities in Kosovo that “a new Republika Srpska” was not going to happen. “I didn't know that the Germans had a say in this. It’s good that Mr. Sarrazin said this openly. I can tell him, and I do respect the man – an independent Kosovo, as you planned it, is not happening,” Vucic said during a visit to Sofia, in response to a journalist’s question after the opening of a new Bulgaria-Greece gas interconnector.
Vucic said that the geopolitical developments surrounding the war in Ukraine and Russia’s decision to annex four Ukrainian regions would certainly have serious consequences for Serbia. Vucic warned about the prevailing mood in Serbia, where 80 percent of people were rooting for the Russians, 20 percent for Ukraine, and 10 percent were concerned about how things would be for Serbia.
