Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Oct. 6 after Croatia decided to halt imports of Russian oil into Serbia that "it is better to be a militarily and politically neutral country, then the member of a club in which Croatian complexes and revenge are going to be the law."

In the statement Vulin said that the only consistency in the European Union's policy was its revenge against free peoples, calling Croatia "an Ustasha state with a complex." He added that in the near future Serbia would have to consider building an oil pipe in association with other countries as "wherever the Ustasha can spite and harm Serbia they will."

He said that the EU had not introduced an eighth package of sanctions against Russia, but its first package of sanctions against Serbia.  Croatia demanded in the eighth package that the delivery of Russian oil through the Adriatic oil pipe (JANAF) to Serbia be prevented and allowed for Bulgaria.

The European Commission's initial proposal envisaged an exception where supplies through the Adriatic pipeline were concerned but after several EU members insisted the proposal was rejected. The explanation was that there is no justification for exempting Serbia.
