Prime Minister: Sanctions on Russia Not Best Solution, Serbia Maintains

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on Oct. 13 that Serbia maintained the stance that imposing sanctions against Russia was not the best answer and solution, while adding that Serbia believed that Russia's attack on Ukraine was an act of aggression and a violation of international law.

"We believe Russia's attack on Ukraine to be an act of aggression and a violation of international law, but we do not believe that sanctions are the best answer to it," Brnabic told reporters. She also said that pressure against Serbia regarding that issue would remain in place, i.e. that the new Serbian government would also be considering that matter.

Brnabic reiterated that, in Serbia's case, many of the countries did not adhere to the principles of international law and had a selective approach to the issue of honoring the territorial integrity of internationally recognized stated.
