According to The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Propulsion communications company, the fourth round of surveys within the New Literacy project has shown that the media literacy index in Serbia has reached 3.97 out of 6, the highest over the past three years.

The statement further says that the index of digital literacy has declined compared to the previous round of surveys and is now 10.68 out of 15.

The polls have determined that, in terms of average media usage, the Serbian public spends the most time on social networks – some 100 minutes per day. Other averages include 57 minutes daily of listening to the radio and 28 minutes devoted to printed media.

The research was conducted by the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CeSID) within USAID’s and Propulsion’s New Literacy partner project.

Previous polls indicated that, in 2021, the Serbian public spends 68 minutes a day watching television, while the most recent survey showed that this time has grown to 88 minutes daily, as has the public’s faith in information provided by the medium.

The project’s findings also state that young people (defined in Serbia as individuals aged 18 to 29) spend most of their time on Instagram, while 66 percent of teens use TikTok every day.
