Serbia has failed to align with the latest decision by the Council of the European Union against certain persons and entities over the situation in Iran.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said on Dec. 2 that the Council of the European Union passed a Decision (2022/2234) to amend the list of persons and entities that were subject to the restrictive measures.
All other Western Balkan states that applied for membership in the Union, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, as well as Ukraine and Moldova, have supported the Council’s Decision.
Also aligned with it are the EFTA states, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, as well as members of the European Economic Area. These states will ensure that their national policies conform with the Council's decision and the EU has acknowledged the commitment and welcomed it, Borrell said in a press release.
Serbia also failed to align with the Council’s previous decision on restrictive measures against Iran, passed in June. Serbia is the only Western Balkan candidate state that has not aligned with six decisions introducing restrictive measures against Ukraine in July, September and November, nor did it accept July’s decision by the Council of the EU on special measures in the fight against terrorism.
