Vucic: 2003 Thessaloniki Document on EU Enlargement to Western Balkans is the Sixth Important Document

After Kosovo had announced it would apply for membership of the European Union (EU), Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Dec. 14 that a document passed at the Thessaloniki summit in 2003, a frequent point of reference for the European Union’s commitment to integrating the Western Balkans, fully supported the implementation of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244.

“My question (to Western partners) is if they intend to honor the documents they have adopted themselves, including the historic one passed in Thessaloniki. Item 5 (of the Thessaloniki document) says that the implementation of the Resolution 1244 will be fully supported,” Vucic said in a video address posted on Instagram.

The Serbian president recalled that aside from the document passed at the Thessaloniki summit twenty years ago, there were five other “important documents”, including the Kumanovo agreement, the Charter of the United Nations, the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Washington agreement. “My question today is – which of the six document you would want to respect, and we’ll support your choice completely,” Vucic said.
