Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Dec. 19 said she was “deeply disappointed” with the responses of Brussels and Washington to provocations of (Kosovo Premier) Albin Kurti, adding it seemed that Brussels and Washington were listening to the Kosovo Serbs only when they were erecting barricades, but even then, not very well.
Speaking to state public broadcaster RTS, Brnabic said that Belgrade would do everything in its power to preserve peace, but stressed she feared the tensions could escalate. Asked about an assessment of Serbian security services, Brnabic replied that “the situation has been pushed to the brink of conflict, an armed conflict,” adding she believed that the same assessments had been made by all services in Kosovo “and by all who have been following the developments there.”
The prime minister also said that Serbia had been engaged in diplomatic activities on “a daily basis” and that she was expecting primarily from Brussels and also from Washington to exert pressure on Pristina to make it honor the Brussels Agreement and engage in setting up an Association/Community of Serb Municipalities.
Brnabic also noted that Serbia “has been paying the price for not imposing sanctions against Russia,” but noted that this decision was in line with Belgrade’s principles.
