Protest in Belgrade against War in Ukraine (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Russian expatriates and other citizens opposed to the war in Ukraine protested in front of the Russian embassy in Belgrade on Dec. 24, demanding that the Russian army withdraw from Ukraine.
At the head of the protest march, held ten months since the start of the war, was a banner reading "Peace to Ukraine, Freedom to Russia." Protesters chanted "No to war," "Putin isn't Russia," and "Russia will be free."
The several-hundred-strong march covered Belgrade's main street. The protesters stopped briefly in front of the embassy of Belarus. A police cordon stopped the march near the Russian embassy, where the demonstrators shouted: "Putin is a killer," "Tribunals," "Putin isn't Russia," and "Freedom to Alexey Navalny!"
Signs in various languages read "The Light in the Hearts of Ukrainians Will Not Go Out," "Putin, Hands off Ukraine," and "Please Stop the War."
