Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Goran Vesic said on Jan. 11 that the Vrbas-Sombor railway route would be fully repaired so as to allow for trains to run at the speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
Minister Vesic said after a meeting with the Vrbas municipal leadership that the railway line was in very poor condition and that train passengers were unable to use it, the Ministry reported in a release. Vesic said that the decision was made that bids be called very soon for a new design, and the plan was to build a completely new electrified rail route in a venture worth EUR80 million.
Vesic also said that speed rails would link Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica and Budapest by the end of 2025, and that a variety of new lines would be opened to include other stops, making it possible for passengers to use the railway network more easily.
