Late on Jan. 12, a cargo train leaked ammonia from one of its tank cars in Pancevo’s Topola Rit neighborhood, causing one person to be admitted to the Pancevo Hospital for oxygen therapy, the RTS public service has reported.
The incident took place on the local freight railway line leading to the Azotara nitrogen plant around 10:30 p.m. Police and firefighters secured the scene and evacuated about a dozen nearest houses.
This is Serbia’s second such incident in less than a month. On Dec. 25, four rail tanker cars full of ammonia travelling on the Pirot-Dimitrovgrad line derailed near Pirot, causing the hospitalization of about 50 people.
