Commenting on EU Special Envoy Miroslav Lajcak’s planned visits to Pristina and Belgrade, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Feb. 6 that diplomatic activity is gaining momentum and pressures are rising, but that she trusts the international community’s guarantees for the Community of Serb Municipalities.
Speaking for the RTS public service, Brnabic explained that Lajcak will first be heading for Pristina, where, as far as she knows, the topic of discussion will be the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities. Brnabic added that she is not interested in Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s opinions on said issue.
PM Brnabic recalled that the Community was negotiated and agreed upon roughly a decade ago – in 2013 and 2015 – as part of the Brussels Agreement, and underscored her trust in the international community’s assurances that the Agreement will be honored.
Her trust, she said, stems from the fact that failure to ensure the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities would bring into question the international community’s ability to guarantee any other agreement.
Seeing the Community brought to fruition “won’t be easy”, the prime minister added, because she expects “Pristina’s friends” to attempt to manipulate the situation and alter the terms agreed upon regarding the Community’s formation.
Despite the expected hurdles, Brnabic expressed her belief that any such maneuvers will fall flat, because all the details of the Community of Serb Municipalities can be found “in black and white” within the Brussels Agreement.
