Serbian ambassador to the United States Marko Djuric said on April 8 that it was necessary for Serbia to be united and show the international community that it was Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s victim.

“This is not an easy time, given the international circumstances. A team is needed to make it clear to everyone that Serbia is the victim. Part of the international community is adjusting its stance, which is why Kurti is nervous and has been announcing new elections. He can no longer monopolize the truth, and Serbia’s international position is  improving,” Djuric said in an interview with the RTS state broadcaster. He also said that that he had met with U.S. senior officials and that “no one in Washington approves of the course” of denying the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

When asked why a new election if Serbs were missing from Pristina’s institutions for some time now, ambassador Djuric, who headed the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija in 2020, said that “the only guarantee Serbia is Serbia itself."

“There are no genuine guarantees that Pristina will change its course before the international community exerts its influence. Let’s see some specific steps towards the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities. Calling local elections in Serb municipalities without the Serbs participating, and arresting Serbs in Kosovo, is Kurti’s strategy to provoke a conflict,” Djuric said.
