Serbia has not sold arms to Ukraine and any such claims aim to destabilize Serbia and draw it into a conflict it wants no part of, Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic announced on April 12.
“We’ve denied these untruths over ten times and, here, we’ll do it again. Serbia has sold and will sell arms neither to the Ukrainian nor to the Russian side, nor to the countries in the vicinity of the conflict. Someone is obviously attempting to draw Serbia into the conflict, but we stand by our declared policy,” Vucevic told Sputnik.
The British news agency Reuters recently published an article citing secret Pentagon documents according to which Serbia pledged to and did send munitions to Ukraine.
The Pentagon papers prove that Serbia “has the political will and military capacity” to provide Ukraine with arms, Reuters maintained, adding that it was unable to verify the authenticity of said documents.
The Pentagon did not comment on the leaked documents.
Vucevic reiterated that Serbia does sell munitions to states far away from the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
“There is always the possibility that some weapons will magically make their way into a conflict zone but that has absolutely nothing to do with Serbia. The question [of how that happened] should be posed to states that do not respect international norms, contract clauses and business customs. I repeat, Serbia did not send arms to Ukraine and any reports to the contrary are untrue speculation,” the minister concluded.
