“Serbia against Violence” Protests Continue, Next Rally on June 2

Protesters who filled Belgrade’s downtown Tasmajdanski Park on May 27 were invited by speakers to gather again on June 2 after they read their demands.

The rally was the fourth "Serbia Against Violence" protest in which the marchers established a ring starting outside the Parliament of Serbia stretching to the Belgrade School of Law and further down to the Tasmajdan Leisure Center and then closing at the front of the RTS state television building.

The protesters are demanding that the members of the Electronic Media Regulatory Authority resign, along with the Serbian interior minister, Bratislav Gasic and the director of the Security and Information Agency, Aleksandar Vulin. They also want media outlets that “spread hatred, violence and fear” to be closed or have their nationwide broadcasting licenses revoked, including the Pink and Happy television stations and the cancelling of TV shows that promote violence.

The caucuses of the Democratic Party, the People’s Party, the Green Left, the We Must and Together coalition and the United called for the protests under the motto “Serbia Against Violence” on May 5 but underlined that they were not party protests.
