Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic on June 16 said that the West, which had been making concessions to Kosovo all along, was now calling for de-escalation of tensions and admitting that it was wrong to hold elections in four [Serb-majority] municipalities in North Kosovo.

“The Council of Europe (CoE) has allowed initiation of Kosovo’s accession process and what bothered us was that it happened at the time when all were pressuring Pristina to start creating an Association/Community of Serb-majority Municipalities,” Dacic told TV Pink.

According to Dacic, it was Germany which insisted on initiating the accession process in the CoE, although EU High Representative Josep Borrell and the EU were against such concession, noting that “Washington was not thrilled either.”

“The problem is that they have been constantly making concessions to Kosovo and wishing to reward Kosovo for its constructive position in relation to what it agreed to in Ohrid,” Dacic said, adding that the rhetoric on Pristina in the CoE had meanwhile changed completely.
