Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic would not call a snap election this autumn as he had said, because he was aware that he would definitely lose, People’s Party vice president Borislav Novakovic said on June 28.

In a statement to Belgrade daily Nova, Novakovic said that during his 11-year regime, Vucic had never been “this much shaken,” noting that it was not due to the current concurrence of unfavorable circumstance, but was rather about “the unstoppable downfall.”

“He can be slowing down the downfall, but he cannot stop it. The latest tragic events have raised with the citizens the fundamental question which a civilized society relies on: Can this state guarantee safety to its citizens? That’s it...Further on is only a living hell which has been created by the Vucic regime. In short, the coming period is not an ally of Vucic,” Novakovic stressed.

Commenting on the fact that Vucic, who stepped down as Serbian Progressive Party leader in May, had postponed formation of People’s Movement for the State announced for late June, Novakovic said that it revealed that “the regime cannot even create an impression of stability.”
