Aleksandar Vucic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said on July 11 that he was proud that in Serbia "hatred toward any nation is not dominantly surfacing."
"First, we must respect ourselves, speak about our own victims, but we must do everything to avoid wars and conflicts," he said for Informer. "Everyone had the right to secede from Yugoslavia, only Serbia did not have the right to self-determination. Even when they were taking Kosovo from us in 1999, it didn't occur to them to say – Excuse us, let's help Serbia," he said.
Speaking about the protests and blockades in Serbia, he also said that the Serbian "deep state," led by (University of Belgrade Rector) Djokic, tried to "deal a blow to Serbia."
The president also said that police responded to the blockades only in dire need, and that they did so, as he put it, in accordance with the law and with minimal use of force. He added that police officers "endure all sorts of things" in order to preserve peace and order and that "they do not disturb anyone" until attacked with clubs and when the law was broken.
