The Socialist Party of Serbia leader, Ivica Dacic, said on June 28 that his Socialists were prepared to discuss their participation in a People’s Movement heralded by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, but that the “orientation” and “organization” of their role should be clarified first.
Dacic, who is the Serbian foreign minister as well, said in an interview with Prva TV that it’s important to make clear if the idea of having the Socialists in Vucic’s movement was to produce a coalition to run for office together, or something else. Dacic said that “there is a need for running together in some way,” as opposition parties planned to unite into a “single bloc.”
The Socialist leader recalled that he had suggested a coalition with the Progressives ahead of the last election, but Vucic’s party decided they should run separately, because forecasts had indicated that the two parties would win more votes if they did.
