Green-Left Front MP Radomir Lazovic said on July 27 that the Serbia Against Violence protests were the biggest since Oct. 5, 2000 which gave reason for optimism, adding that the majority of people knew about them and supported the demands, "So that now we have something that resembles" a social consensus, but that the "struggle will be long and hard."
"We insist that the demands be met so that we can take steps toward a society without violence as quickly as possible. The Serbian Progressive Party's response clearly shows that the violence comes exactly from them and that we have to remove the Serbian Progressive Party if we want a Serbia without violence," Lazovic told the NIN weekly.
He said that he believed that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic "is trying to manipulate the public to forget about the demands that the vast majority of citizens agree with" by "offering elections."
"We as the opposition are always for elections, but we believe that in this situation one should first focus on the demands, and then talk about elections. If he does not want to meet these demands, I think that elections are something that will lead to change and after that the fulfillment of the demands," Lazovic said.
