Opposition Together party MP Nikola Nesic has said that protests titled “Serbia against Violence” have strengthened the opposition ranks in Serbia and have also helped the citizens to overcome their fears. He has described the protests as an oath which must not be renounced, adding that the protests must continue until all demands are met.
“The residents of Kragujevac are aware of the violence in our society. It is great that some of the speakers at the rallies are ordinary protesters, the dissatisfied people, because they no longer have fears. Now, they do not only walk in protest, but they also speak up,” Nesic said in an interview with BETA.
Nesic also said that the opposition in Serbia should follow in footsteps of Kragujevac, where, ten opposition parties and movements, despite their ideological differences, had signed a technical agreement pledging to “protect all fellow citizens against the regime’s pressure and guard their votes,” and also “not to cooperate with the Serbia Progressive Party” at next local elections.
“We have started to work together and in several months, we will ask the citizens to assess our work and to nominate candidates for next local elections. The ongoing protests stand as an evidence that we can function together and it is an important message to all,” said Nesic, who is also an alderman in the Kragujevac City Assembly.
Asked about how to defeat the regime of President Aleksandar Vucic in the next parliamentary elections, Nesic replied: “It will be difficult without some sort of collaboration between all opposition parties and coalitions.”
