On Sept. 15, Serbia is marking the Day of Serbian Unit, Freedom and National Flag, which has been celebrated as a national holiday since 2020 based on an agreement between the leaderships of Serbia and Republika Srpska (RS).
The idea of establishing a joint Serbia-RS holiday was presented to the public after a meeting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the RS leadership in 2020.
This year, the holiday is being officially marked in Nis, and before the ceremony Vucic will attend a presentation of weaponry, military equipment and some of the capabilities of the Serbian Armed Force in the city.
According to the Law on State and Other Holidays, the state holidays in Serbia are the New Year, Labor Day, Victory Day, and Armistice Day, while the Day of Serbian Unity has never made it to the Serbian parliament as a proposal.
