The International Press Institute (IPI) – The Global Network for Independent Media stated on Oct. 12 that the reform of the two media laws in Serbia had to be harmonized with the Media Strategy that was adopted in 2020.

IPI urged the Serbian government to take “real steps” towards a compromise, after the recent meeting with the Coalition for Media Freedom, which IPI is supporting, it was stated in the post on the X social network.

The Coalition for Media Freedom once again urged the Serbian government on Oct. 11 to harmonize the proposed Draft law on public information and media and Draft law on electronic media with the solutions from the Media Strategy. Representatives of journalists’ and media associations have stated that none of them had seen the final versions of the draft laws and that they feared they would only learn of the bills’ contents on the day of their passing.
