Vesna Pesic, a sociologist, said on Nov. 1 that she felt the protests “Serbia against Violence” had been degraded to a mere ritual, devoid of substance and purpose, and that the next move might be to suspend them, since a campaign for early polls in December had been launched already.
Pesic said in an interview with the Danas newspaper that the decision depended most on the opposition parties organizing the protests.
“They (the opposition parties rallied around the “Serbia against Violence” ticket) might call for a large-scale rally shortly ahead of the elections. Options vary, it’s not an either-or situation, but rather one demanding a consensus on what’s the best for the elections and the citizens who attended the protests regularly,” Pesic explained.
