The leader of the Civic Movement “URA” and Montenegro’s former prime minister, Dritan Abazovic, said on Nov. 15 that he was aware his “life was in danger,” not only because as a member of the executive branch of power he combated organized crime, but also because “he was usually referred to as criminals’ biggest problem” in the state prison in Spuz.
Abazovic said in an interview with the Nova paper that the reference was often used by people “who have more money than Montenegro,” confident that they would “want some kind of revenge.” “It doesn’t inspire any particular fear in me though,” Abazovic said.
The former prime minister explained that he had enjoyed “certain protective measures” since he stepped down. Abazovic also said that solid infrastructure had been set up in Montenegro for “decimating organized crime, but it would depend on political will.”
