The latest elections in Serbia were not in compliance with the standards or criteria required in a candidate country for membership in the European Union (EU), the head of the European Parliament election observation delegation to Serbia, Klemen Groselj, said on Dec. 22/

“Applying election standards is one of the most fundamental subjects in the EU accession process. So, it is clear enough. Negotiations will not be closed until these standards have been achieved,” Groselj said in an interview with Belgrade daily Nova.

He also said that in the past, observers had not seen what they saw in these elections, adding that the atmosphere around the elections was different, even if compared to the last year.

Groselj stressed that this time irregularities were so apparent and of such undisguised nature that they had been noted also by foreign observers who were on their first mission to Serbia.
