Commenting on protests organized by coalition Serbia Against Violence, academician Ljubomir Simovic on Dec. 27 said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was ready to do whatever it took to stay in power.

Simovic stressed that the protests as well as the recent elections had pushed Serbia 30 years in reverse.

“Comparisons with the ‘90s of the 20th century are not always necessary. I cannot forget that (Slobodan) Milosevic also deployed tanks to Belgrade’s Republic Square, but as far as I remember, there had not been such violence as we saw during the protest outside the Belgrade City Hall. What happened there goes beyond the limits,” Simovic told Belgrade daily Nova.

Simovic noted that Vucic’s worst enemy was himself.

“He does not realize that everything he has been doing will eventually turn against him. Everything he does, he actually does against himself,” Simovic specified.
