Former deputy editor-in-chief of previously opposition-leaning political weekly NIN, Vesna Malisic, has said that the staff members were ready to go into the complete unknown, but that when they got a new offer from United Media, there was no dilemma as to whether they would accept it.

She said that she had not wanted to accept the offer from new NIN owner Jelena Drakulic Petrovic to be the chief of a research center in the weekly because she had seen no room for such a center and, as she put it, had no faith in that concept.

"I think that the resignation of almost the entire staff of NIN is the best response to the new concept of the weekly's owner, Jelena Drakulic Petrovic, and to the direction in which NIN is headed. Just like NIN is a part of history, so will that act be a part of history. The office secretary, columnists, associates, proofreaders have left, we have even heard from interviewees who told us they would no longer speak to NIN," Malisic told the Jan. 12 issue of daily Nova.

She said that the broadest framework of the new weekly would be courage and dialogue.

United Media announced on Jan. 10 that it would soon launch a new weekly on the Serbian market, where the entire staff of former NIN would transfer.
