Serbia had continued to drop in the most important global ranking by perceived levels of public sector corruption, Transparency Serbia (TS) said on Jan. 30., adding that the country’s 2023 score of 36 out of 100 remained unchanged against 2022, but hit the lowest ranking in the past 12 years since the methodology had been updated.
In the latest corruption perception index (CPI) report ranking 180 countries and territories around the globe, Serbia dropped to 104th place, three down against the previous year, TS said. It added that Serbia’s score of 36 was seven points below the global average and 28 points below the EU average.
In the region, Bosnia and Herzegovina is the most corrupt country and the only one scoring below Serbia with CPI of 35, while Albania, which shared 101st place with Serbia last year, moved up the ranking with 37 score index.
Kosovo, ranked separately, scored 41, North Macedonia and Hungary 42, Bulgaria 45, and Montenegro and Romania 46.
