Belgrade and Pristina will continue talks in Brussels, on Feb. 27, to discuss a decision to ban the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo.

A spokesperson for the European Commission, Nabila Massrali, said that as far as she’s aware “both sides have confirmed attendance of the Dialogue” on Feb. 27, adding that the theme of the meeting would be “a recent decision by the Central Bank of Kosovo regarding the use of money.”

The authorities in Serbia announced that the head of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, would be their representative at the meeting in Brussels.

The Central Bank of Kosovo said that the bank’s representative, too, would attend the Feb. 27 meeting, highlighting „readiness to get involved, and meet with a representative of the National Bank of Serbia to facilitate the choice of the easiest option for transferring euro-denominated funds into user accounts, via banking channels.”

Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, had said earlier that he would not attend the meeting, explaining that “the use of the Serbian dinar is not part of the Dialogue,” and that for that reason it “isn’t a meeting the chief negotiator should attend.”

Bislimi also said that the European Union’s envoy for the Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, “has broken his own principles, those same ones he decided in 2021 not to be discussed without the consent of both parties.”
