Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on March 9 that if she became speaker of the Serbian parliament, an office she was put forward for by the Serbian Progressive Party, she would want to establish a dialogue with the opposition and reduce tensions.

She told Prva TV that it was natural for there to be different viewpoints on certain matters and a dialogue at the same time, adding that, to have a strong and serious country, a serious government was needed, but so was a serious and responsible opposition.

Brnabic said she would enter the parliament with the intention of focusing on problems and would strive to make the parliament more public -- through public hearings, debates and other events. She stressed that she would like to see more parliamentary diplomacy, and for it to be such so as to ensure better positions for Serbia. The motion to pick Ana Brnabic, currently the prime minister, for speaker of the parliament has entered parliamentary procedure, the legislature's website announced in a March 9 post.

In a March 9 meeting, she thanked the ambassadors of the Quint countries and the head of the European Union mission to Serbia for excellent cooperation during her tenure as prime minister and voiced the hope that that cooperation would continue with the next cabinet and with her individually. The ambassadors said they had a good relationship with Brnabic and wished her luck and success as speaker.
