Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said at the beginning of the Women, Peace and Security Forum focused on sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo that the fight for justice should never be abandoned.
“Commitment to it is a life-long mission. We have joined forces over the violence in conflicts that has been talked about. Women and girls are hit the hardest,” Osmani said.
Albanian President Bajram Begaj said that the Western Balkans had witnessed bloody conflicts leaving “an indelible mark on our hearts, and in our homelands,” adding that women were “the targets of violence, and exposed to ethnic cleansing.”
Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar said that carrying out the Women Peace and Security Agenda was a priority for Slovenia, explaining that wartime sexual violence must be punished, and raising awareness of sexual violence in conflicts should be a part of each country’s politics.
The conference held in Pristina, on April 15, brought together nearly 1,000 participants from more than 40 states.
